Mixing Homeopathy and Olive Oil?
I won’t relate Homeopaty and Olive Oil directly.
First of all, I want to clarify some issues that make me think about this matter.
Table of Contents
Medicines ahead of their time
Whenever someone starts talking or writing about homeopathy, they appears a lot of conflicting opinions about it.
Indeed, throughout history there have always been these kinds of differences with respect to the practices and medicines people employ.
- The so-called witches were burned at the stake for people who did not understand they could heal with a handful of herbs
- Miguel Servet was burned at the stake for suggesting the circulatory system.
- Acupuncturists were seen as peddlers a few years ago.
- Osteopaths have been recognized as beneficial discipline relatively little time ago
- When I was a child, olive oil was seen like a poison to any diet and had to be avoided at all costs (until It appeared the study of seven countries in the DR. Ancel Keys)
- The stem cell therapies that are performed today would also lead to the stake to more than one if some people would have some politic power.
We can see how many of these conflicts converge at the stake. It’s funny, the truth through the fire.
I must also say that not all therapies have shown continuity in time, depends on natural selection and the economy of those who promote that they lasting more or less.
However, what interests me in all this is to conclude that we must never close any door to another conviction, even they seem so bizarre.
Or maybe everything has a limit?
From this point, I will talk about homeopathy, which is one of the most controversial points talking about therapy and medication .
Personally I’m not for or against, I’ve never used but if necessary I think I will.
But to clear up this mess, I’ll go on to explain what homeopathy consists on.
HOMEOPATHY BASIS
Homeopathy is based on the belief that the use of substances that in high doses produce the same effects that disease to be cured, in small doses cure that disease.
The same things that caused a disease , are its cure.
For example, a plant that produces a normal dose in a terrible stomach ache if ingested by a healthy person, cure these symptoms using preparations with very, very, very little of that plant in case you’d had a stomachache.
Basically this is the basis of homeopathy.
Until this point, it would be reasonable to think it maybe work… or not.
The controversy comes when the very, very, very small amount of this material is defined.
The way to prepare homeopathic medicines is as follow:
- 1º Take a part of the original material (wich produces illness) and mix it with 99 parts of water.
- 2º Mix is shaken or “dinamyzated” following homeopathic terms. This mix is called 1CH (a Hahnemann centesimal)
- 3º This operation is repeated, and every time it’s made, the result mix is called as 2CH, 3CH, etc etc.
- 4º Depending of understanding of homeopath, he can recommend for a concret case a 2CH, 15CH, 30 CH or even more.
A LOT OF DOUBTS, IT IS THE QUESTION.
Imagine those original components work.
Even if they work, with a little of chemical knowledge, you can calculate that since 12CH, there is no one original molecule.
Or (always) we can think it would be like a lottery, some bottles would have a molecule and any others would be only water.
You can see it easy with this example , by Ben Goldacre in his book “bad science” talking about a 30CH dilution.
Imagine a water sphere with a 150 millions kilometers diameter ( distance sun-earth). Light take eight minutes to travel that distance. Imagine a water sphere with that size with a single molecule dissolved into: that’s a 30 CH dilution (30.89CH more acurrately).
It’s easy to understand that with nowadays scientific knowledge, It doesn’t work.
Two weeks ago, the head-blogger Tim Ferris wrote about homeopathyc medicine efectiveness.
He wrote about four possible explanations for the effectiveness of homeopathic preparations
1º Homeopathy works as homeopaths say.
2º Placebo effect.
3º Regression Toward to the mean
4º Some nowadays unexplained mechanism
You can read this post with his point of view about homeopathy. I recommend you
WATER MEMORY
However, homeopathy supporters argue to “water memory” as that nowadays unexplained mechanism.
This water memory would be the key to give a magic and curative power to water, by successive dynamizations. Even without containing a molecule of original material.
If it were in this way, it would be almost magic.
I would love it were in this way
THE EMOTO EXPERIENCE
In the same way of water memory, some years ago, I read the Masaru Emoto papers about the transmission of emotions to a kind of water memory . Those emotions were expressed by music, human voice or even written texts.
You can wath the video about Mr Emoto experience. I think it’s funny.
Summarizing, Masaru Emoto thought that water was able to keep energy, negative or positive, even if it was transmitted over it in some different ways.
The way he tested effects to water exposure to different kind of energies was by freezing and watching at michroscopic forms of ice crystal formed.
Firstly, exposures were dedicated to music. Clasical music =pretty crystals. Heavy metal= amorphyc crystals
Lastly, he used human voice. By applying positive words over water it appeared beautiful crystals, meanwhile in the other way, with negative words , the result was a disaster.
Finally, experience finished by fixing pieces of paper with written words in several languages, result was the same than before.
Conclussions were that water had some unknown mechanism to get energy and to store it in the same way if it had memory.
If it were in this way, it would be almost magic.
I would love it were in this way
Masaru Emoto and Homeopathy have a legion of detractors, not without reason, because, in fact, is quite difficult to prove both theories.
HOMEOPATHY AND OLIVE OIL
However, we aren’t in a water based blog, but a Olive Oil based one.
Why is this post named Homeopathy and Olive Oil?
Unlike water, and these theories is scientifically proven that the extra virgin olive oil is a great ally of the health of people, animals and even I would say things.
In this case, I ask myself, if instead of “dynamizate” these homeopathyc preparations with water…
It wouldn’t be better, healthier and more scientific to prepare them with Extra Virgin Olive Oil??
It wouldn’t be better to wet homeopathic granules with Extra Virgin Olive Oil??
Thus in the worst case for those who believe in homeopathic medicine, they would be helping your body from certain, exquisite Mediterranean way.
Lords of Boiron: please open your eyes to a new line of business 100% healthy.
And … DO YOU HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT THESE KIND OF THINGS?
I encorage you to give me your opinion by commenting this post. All opinons are welcomed.
